Cannabis & the Law

Less than a year in, the legalization of cannabis has created a host of opportunities and uncertainties around what everyone can and cannot do. This workshop will dive into some of the key issues and questions around cannabis and the law.

Emerging Trends in Business Law

Join our diverse panel of LGBTQ lawyers for a primer on emerging business law trends in the Canadian legal landscape, including on cannabis, crypto-currency, and cyber security. The panelists will also highlight practical tips, strategies, and priorities every lawyer (or future lawyer) should consider during recruitment, hire-backs, and in practice.

The Commodification of Data: Data Lakes, Data Mines and the Privacy Law Landscape

Personal data is critical to most commercial, economic, and political activities. The commodification of personal data is paradoxically complete and at the same time evolving (as new channels for data collection and disclosure are created). Is our privacy landscape increasingly hostile to individuals? This session will overview fundamental concepts in Canadian privacy law, and how a privacy lawyer addresses issues such as consumer rights, privacy breaches, the Internet of Things, smart cities, and other Big Data initiatives.
